STARKE COUNTY – According to a notice from the Starke County Planning Commission Administrator, there is an update to the entrance for the upcoming December 4th public hearing in regards to a data center moratorium.
The meeting will take place at Knox Community High School.
Originally, it was stated that Door #10 was the correct door to enter at the school; however, that is incorrect. The updated notice states that the correct entry door is through the high school’s Auditorium Door, or Door #5H.
During this hearing, the Planning Commission will be receiving public comments on the subject of a 1-year moratorium on data center projects within the unincorporated areas of Starke County.
They will then make a recommendation to the Starke County Board of Commissioners for consideration and possible adoption.
The public is invited to attend this hearing, which expects a large local turnout.

Proposed Temporary Moratorium on Hyperscale Data Center Developments
Notice is hereby given that the Starke County Planning Commission will hold a Public Hearing on the following proposal:
The Planning Commission will consider a temporary twelve (12) month moratorium on the acceptance, processing, or approval of any building permits, improvement location permits, or site plan applications for Hyperscale Data Center Projects within the unincorporated areas of Starke County, Indiana.
For purposes of this moratorium, a “Hyperscale Data Center Project” shall mean any structure or complex of structures exceeding 5,000 square feet in total floor area, designed or intended primarily for housing data processing equipment, servers, or related cooling, energy, or
communications infrastructure.
The purpose of the proposed moratorium is to allow the County sufficient time to evaluate and adopt zoning regulations addressing such uses, including but not limited to infrastructure capacity, environmental impacts, and public safety considerations.

Following the hearing, the Planning Commission will forward a recommendation to the Starke County Board of Commissioners for final consideration and possible adoption.
