LaPorte County Coroner shares scene preservation tips

La Porte County Coroner’s office recently shared some helpful tips about preserving a scene if someone dies unexpectedly; in order to help officials better assess what happened.

It is recommended to call 911 immediately, and it is important to not touch or cover the body.

In order to preserve evidence, nothing should be cleaned or moved from the scene and the room temperature should be kept as-is.

The announcement shares that it is important to remember not to post on social media about a death before the next of kin have been notified; and to have as few people as possible on-site so that when the officials arrive, they can do their job.

The announcement states that following these tips in the event of an unexpected death can help protect families and allow responders involved to serve the community even better.
