
GRIFFITH – A story about an alleged ice cream thief out of Lake County is getting national attention in the news this week.
According to our reporting partners at WNDU, a 43-year-old man is facing felony charges in Griffith after allegedly stealing more than $6,200 worth of ice cream.
According to the Griffith Police Department, Christopher Stewart was charged with two felonies and one misdemeanor in connection with the theft.
Police said Stewart stole 258 cases of ice cream over several weeks. Investigators said he admitted to stealing the frozen desserts from delivery trucks and then selling them.
Stewart was taken to Lake County Jail.
All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
