Starke County Commissioners to consider data center moratorium December 15

The Starke County Board of Commissioners will be considering the proposal of a data center moratorium at their next upcoming meeting.

The Starke County Auditor’s Office shared an announcement on Wednesday that stated: “The Starke County Board of Commissioners hereby gives notice that the Commissioners intend to consider the Certified Proposal from the Starke County Advisory Planning Commission: a Proposed Temporary Moratorium on Hyperscale Data Center Developments, which will impose a twelve (12) month moratorium on the acceptance, processing, or approval of any building permits, improvement location permits, or site plan applications for Hyperscale Data Center Projects within the unincorporated areas of Starke County, Indiana.

The Starke County Board of Commissioners will consider the aforementioned Certified Proposal at their December 15, 2025, 9:30 a.m. (CST) regularly scheduled meeting, which will take place in the Commissioners Room located at 53 E. Mound St., Knox, IN 46534.”

The consideration on the moratorium is the first item on the agenda for that meeting.

Other items on the agenda include a monthly report from EMS, discussions on land, job descriptions, and a truck. The county attorney will discuss a contract with commissioners, and they will also hear about a lease agreement.

Commissioners will vote on the approval of the 2026 Reassessment Contract, as well as hear a request from the coroner in regards to extending on-call pay for the deputy coroner to include county-observed holidays.

After vendor and payroll claims, as well as the approval of minutes from past meetings and any other business that may come before the commissioners, the meeting will be adjourned.

The public is invited to attend this meeting.
