There was a public hearing held in Knox last night, December 4th, in regards to a moratorium on data centers in Starke County.
Community members filled Knox High School Auditorium, and many shared their thoughts on building data centers in our area; it was quickly established that community members are against bringing data centers to Starke County.
After discussion, the Plan Commission unanimously passed a resolution that they will present to the Starke County Commissioners, recommending that Commissioners approve a 12-month moratorium on data centers within Starke County. This moratorium will allow city officials to do more research and develop guidelines and ordinances in regards to data centers looking to come into the community in the future.
Starke County Commissioners will consider the recommendation and either approve or deny the moratorium at a future meeting.
