STARKE COUNTY – The Starke County Auditor has shared that there are still several board positions available for those wishing to become involved locally.
In a recent announcement, the vacancies and requirements were listed. There was also a note that current board members whose term ends December 31st of this year will also need to submit for reappointment if they wish to continue being a board member.
Those applying for any of the board positions should share which board they are interested in serving on, and the qualifications they have that would make them a good board member.
The following vacancies were posted:
Two members needed for the Planning Commission; these board positions are appointed by County Commissioners.
Three members needed for the Board of Zoning Appeals; appointed by two commissioners and one council member.
Two members of the Health Board; appointed by commissioner.
One member of the Starke County Library Board; appointed by commissioner.
One member of the North Judson Wayne Township Library Board; appointed by commissioner.
One member of the Aviation Board; appointed by commissioner.
Two members of the Hospital Board; appointed by commissioner.
Two members of the City Planning Commission. These members must live in the city of Knox’s two-mile jurisdiction (rather than only within city limits). These are commissioner appointed seats.
Three members needed for the Property Tax Assessment Board of Appeals; appointed by two commissioners and one council member.
Three members needed for the Starke County Convention and Visitors Commission; appointed by a commissioner.
One member of the Building Corporation; by commissioner appointment.
Two members of the Alcoholic Beverage Board; appointed by one commissioner and one council member.
The announcement states that there are also some vacancies on these boards that are not councilor- or commissioner- appointed. It also notes that these appointments will be made during their first meeting of the year, so applicants should have all requests in before that meeting so councilors and/or commissioners have a chance to look over the letters of interest.
Those with questions should reach out to the Starke County Auditor at 574-772-9105.
