Moving Starke County Forward seeking volunteers for Point-in-Time Count January 28

The Moving Starke County Forward health coalition has announced they are looking for volunteers to join them to help conduct the annual Point-in-Time Count on Wednesday, January 28th.

This nationwide effort is conducted every year to help identify community members who are facing homelessness and housing insecurity; including individuals living in an emergency or transitional shelter, people staying in a hotel or motel paid for by an organization, and those residing in a place not meant for habitation such as outdoors, in a vehicle, or in an abandoned building.

Volunteers at this event will be distributing resource bags while conducting surveys in the community. There will be volunteer stations at Knox HealthLinc, at Shelter 2 at Wythogan Park in Knox, and at the North Judson United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. The event will run from 10am to 5pm Central Time.

Those wishing to participate are asked to register for the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority’s PIT Count Volunteer webinar, which is scheduled for 1pm Central Time this Wednesday, January 21st.

Additionally, organization representatives and volunteers who are interested in assisting with this local effort are asked to attend the Starke County PIT Count Volunteer meeting which is scheduled for Monday, January 26th at 1pm Central Time at the Starke County Health Department, which is located at 108 North Pearl Street in Knox.

General information that is collected to be included in the Starke County statistics will be submitted to the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and it helps local representatives gain a deeper understanding of the issues community members are facing. This information can help influence future funding efforts related to homelessness and housing insecurity.
