Weather reports indicate that Starke county and other nearby areas may experience heavy snowfall and drastic temperature drops today, Wednesday, into Thursday.
The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory on Tuesday for Starke and Marshall Counties, stating that beginning this morning and through noon tomorrow, Thursday, our area is expected to experience lake effect snow with accumulations between 3 and 6 inches; and northwest winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
The announcement goes on to state that roads will become slick and hazardous in these conditions, with impacts expected for Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commuters, and that visibilities may drop to 1/4 mile at times due to the expected falling and blowing snow.
National Weather Service urges drivers to slow down and use caution while traveling, and reminds drivers that road conditions can be found by calling 5-1-1.
The final part of the announcement states that during lake effect snow, the weather can vary from bands of locally heavy snow to dry weather just a few miles away, and rapid changes in weather, visibility, and driving conditions is expected.
