North Judson holds public hearing for special use variance for Lifewise Academy

The Town of North Judson recently shared the meeting minutes from their January 12th Board of Zoning Appeals meeting.

During the meeting, a public hearing was held in regards to a special use variance request the town received that would allow for the construction of a Lifewise Academy classroom building on a property that is currently zoned for residential and being used for agricultural purposes.

A representative from Lifewise Academy stated that it is a nonprofit, parent-permitted, privately funded program that provides Bible-based education to public school students during non-core instructional time.

The representative shared that classes are currently operating in a rented space, but that a more permanent location is desired.

According to the meeting minutes, questions were asked by board members and neighbors, and discussions were held regarding the request. Two letters were read aloud to be entered into the record, from neighboring property owners.

The meeting minutes state that the letters were not opposed to the program but were opposed to the granting of a special use variance for non-residential use on these particular parcels of property.

The notes state that there was no final decision made at that time, and that the BZA board members agreed to conduct a site visit and reconvene later for further discussion.

No other topics were brought up during the North Judson BZA meeting, which was adjourned at 8:52am.
