Reminders about building permits and required inspections in Starke County

The Starke County Planning Commission recently released some reminders in regards to building permits and required inspections in the county.

The announcement states that if you pull a building permit, you should remember that the permit applicant is responsible for scheduling all required inspections, which are not automatic and not scheduled by the county unless they are called in. Any inspections must be requested at least 24 hours in advance, with a note that same-day or short-notice inspections are only granted at the discretion of the Building Commissioner, and are not guaranteed. Any work that proceeds without the required inspections may be subject to stop-work orders, corrections, or enforcement action.

Common projects that require inspections include footings, foundation work, framing, electrical, mechanical, or plumbing work, insulation prior to drywall or concealment, and any final inspections. Inspections are also required for decks, porches, swimming pools, and demolitions, among others including any inspections the Building Commissioner deems necessary.

The announcement states that anyone with questions or who would like to request an inspection should contact the Planning and Building Department at 574-772-9133.
