Starke County Commissioners adopt data center moratorium

Tuesday the Starke County Planning Commission released a notice in regards to a moratorium on data center projects.

The notice states that as of December 15th, the Starke County Board of Commissioners adopted an ordinance that has imposed a temporary moratorium on the issuance of Improvement Location Permits for hyperscale data center projects.

The moratorium is for a one-year period and covers the receipt, processing, and issuance of improvement location permits or any related applications for hyperscale data center projects. This includes any associated storage facilities, water conservation systems, cooling systems, data center buildings, and all other relevant facilities.

The ordinance applies to all zoning districts within the unincorporated areas of Starke County.

The ordinance itself is available for inspection at the Starke County Plan Commission Office, or the Office of the Starke County Auditor; both located at 53 East Mound Street in Knox.
