Starke County man who fled house arrest turns self in

A man both escaped and was re-apprehended recently after escaping from detention in Starke County.

On Friday morning, Starke County Court Services shared information on Stevie B. Seymour, Jr. It was reported that on January 13th, Seymour Jr. physically severed his court ordered GPS unit and failed to return to his lawful detention setting in Starke County. The 45-year-old man was sentenced to two years of home detention on January 5th of this year, after pleading guilty to felony intimidation.

The announcement on Friday asked for the public’s help with any information leading to the apprehension of Seymour Jr.

According to information subsequently received from the Starke County Sheriff’s Office, on the following day, Saturday, January 17th, around 4:49am, a Gary Police Department officer was dispatched to the 4700 block of Broadway in reference to a wanted individual who wished to surrender.

Upon the officer’s arrival, Seymour Jr. was positively identified and taken into custody without incident; and transported to the Gary City Jail.

The Starke County Sheriff’s Office stated that ongoing collaborations between agencies, such as this, significantly enhance public safety. They stated that the Gary Police Department acted swiftly, diligently, and professionally.
