Starke County Planning Commission amends agendas regarding two moratoriums

On Wednesday, the Starke County Planning Commission shared an announcement and some updated agendas in regards to the discussion of two moratoriums.

Originally on the agenda for a January 14th meeting that was ultimately cancelled, the two resolutions are in regards to the extension of the temporary moratorium on Battery Energy Storage Systems, and Commercial Solar Energy Systems respectively.

According to an announcement that was shared yesterday, due to timeline requirements for submissions to local media, the Plan Commission is unable to hear, discuss, or vote on either of these extensions at their upcoming January 28th meeting.

The Starke County Plan Commission will hold public hearings on the moratorium extension resolutions on Wednesday, February 11th, 2026. The public hearings will take place at 5:30pm Central Time at the Starke County Annex Building, in Meeting Room 1.

All interested persons will be given an opportunity to be heard. Written comments may be submitted prior to the meeting, and will be included in the official record.

Correction: This story previously incorrectly stated that the two items were removed from the January 14th agenda and moved to January 28th. The January 14th meeting was canceled, and the two items were not added to the January 28th agenda. The article has been updated to reflect the updated, corrected information.
