According to the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, Indiana Governor Mike Braun signed an executive order on Sunday declaring a state of emergency across Indiana.
This state of emergency directs IDHS to coordinate all of the state’s emergency response efforts and is an avenue to open additional state resources.
As of the time of this article, both Starke and Pulaski Counties were in a Travel Watch advisory status, meaning that road conditions are threatening to the safety of the public. During a “watch” local travel advisory, only essential travel such as to and from work or in an emergency, is recommended; and emergency action plans should be implemented by businesses, schools, government agencies, and other organizations.
A Travel Watch is one level lower than a Travel Warning Advisory. If a Travel Warning Advisory is called, individuals should refrain from all travel.
IDHS states that the executive order declaring a state of emergency opens up more resources for public safety to assist Hoosiers during this winter storm.
