According to an announcement from Kankakee Valley REMC, Bikes for Kids of Northwest Indiana has partnered with the Knox Community School Corporation.

This partnership, along with a grant from REMC’s Operation Round Up for $3,000, will result in over 120 bicycles and helmets being gifted to area second graders whose families are living at or below the poverty line.

The announcement states that the bicycles will be purchased and delivered to students this spring.

Bikes for Kids is a nonprofit that has donated thousands of bicycles and helmets to low-income children across Starke, Marshall, and St. Joseph counties since 2019.

In 2026, Bikes for Kids has planned giveaways at Plymouth High School, Knox High School, and John Glenn High School; with all three events serving not just the children in the host schools, but with multiple other area schoolchildren eligible to participate across all three events.
