Knox-Center Township Fire Department recently reported members practicing their ice rescue skills.
On Sunday, February 15th, members of the Fire Department participated in surface ice water rescue training. The post states that members used two methods to practice rescuing a conscious victim who has fallen through the ice: a throw bag, to be used with victims who are close to shore; and members entering the ice to rescue a victim farther out from shore.
The training took place at Hill Excavating, and the Fire Department stated that the skills learned during training, while used infrequently, are valuable tools and something all department members must know and master.
The announcement ended with a call to those who may be interested in joining the Knox-Center Township Fire Department, who is accepting applications for firefighters. More information about joining the Fire Department can be found online at knoxcenterfire.org.
