Starke County Historical Society announces two upcoming April events for America 250

The Starke County Historical Society has shared two upcoming events in April that will celebrate both Starke County History and America’s 250th birthday.

On April 11th, students from the AP American History Class at North Judson-San Pierre High School will be tour guides on a bus trip across Starke County; called the Starke County Treasures Tour. Those attending the tour will learn about railroad history, hear stories about local veterans and an early plane landing, and will learn about Henry Schricker. Tickets are available at the Schricker Public Library in Knox, or at North Judson Wayne Township Public Library, with a maximum of 60 seats available.

On April 25th, Starke County will join every county in Indiana to plant a Liberty Tree in honor of the original Liberty tree in Boston, which served as a gathering place for the Sons of Liberty. Starke County’s Liberty Tree will be planted in the Starke County Forest with many other activities planned for attendees such as vendors, community displays, nature trails, and educational booths. Notably, April 25th of this year will be the 75th anniversary of Governor Henry Schricker planting the 10,000,000th tree in the Hoosier National Forest for Arbor Day.
