
Today is the deadline for applications or nominations for the 2026 Governor’s Awards for Environmental Excellence.
The awards, which are sponsored by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, are designed to highlight projects across the state that make strides towards building greener, more sustainable communities or operations and that were implemented in 2024 or 2025.
There are 7 awards that will be presented, one in each of 7 categories:
- Energy Efficiency / Renewable Resources
- Environmental Education / Outreach
- Five-year Continuous Improvement
- Greening the Government
- Land Use / Conservation
- Pollution Prevention
- Recycling / Reuse
The deadline to submit applications and nominations is tonight at 10:59pm Central Time. Nominations or can be made by citizens, government agencies, businesses, organizations, and educational institutions. Self-nominations are also encouraged.
The awards will be presented in September, after a panel of conservation, environmental, and academic professionals review and provide feedback on the nominations/applications. Awards will be based on project innovation, measurable results, and transferability.
