According to an announcement from the National Weather Service of Northern Indiana, the agency has analyzed satellite and storm chaser data from the March 10th storms, and determined that for a short time in Starke County, a second tornado formed and touched down for a brief period of time.
The secondary tornado was confirmed as an EF-0 with winds estimated of up to 85 mph formed on the south/southwest flank of the larger “wedge” tornado that came through the county. The wedge tornado was classified as an EF-2.
The National Weather Service stated that this brings the tornado tally for the March 10th and 11th severe weather event up to four: Two in Starke County, one in Jay County, and one in Wells County.
