The Starke County Plan Commission shared a notice this week in regards to three ordinances that have been adopted by the Starke County Board of Commissioners.
The three ordinances are in regards to using more clarifying language around various job titles and descriptions throughout the county.
Ordinance number 2026-06 replaces all references to the “Starke County Planning and Zoning Administrator” with the title “Starke County Director of Planning and Building.” This ordinance states that the change does not alter the existence, appointment, or authority of the office.
Ordinance number 2026-07 replaces “Planning and Zoning Administrator” or “Planning and Zoning Administrator/Building Commissioner” with “Starke County Director of Planning and Building” or “Starke County Director of Planning and Building / Building Commissioner”. This ordinance confirms that the Building Commissioner may also serve as the Director of Planning and Building, and that the same individual may lawfully hold both offices.
Ordinance number 2026-08 replaces all references to “Code Enforcement Officer” with “Secretary of the Planning and Building Department.” This ordinance conforms the existing code enforcement position to the unified Planning and Building Department structure, and states that the Secretary shall perform all regulatory, inspection, and nuisance-enforcement duties previously assigned to the Code Enforcement Officer.
These ordinances took effect on Monday, March 2nd, and full copies of each ordinance is available for the public’s inspection at the Starke County Planning and Building Department at the Starke County Auditor’s Office.
