Hamlet Zoning Board Reinstates Fine on Dilapidated Garage

A $5,000 fine is back in place on the owner of a dilapidated garage in Hamlet. Town officials first imposed the fine in June, saying the garage on Railroad Street near the former bank building was unsafe, with a partially-collapsed roof. But they agreed to give the owner another chance to tear it down or clean it up, after he pleaded with town officials for an extension.

Cross-Country Veterans Bike Expedition Reaches Finish Line

A cross-country bicycle ride that brought five combat veterans through Starke County is almost complete. Back in May, they set off from Washington, D.C. on the Great American Rail-Trail.

Knox Board of Works Adds $5,000 Fine for 401 E. Lake Street

The Knox Board of Works is increasing the fines on 401 East Lake Street. Director of Building and Code Compliance Kenny Pfost recently told board members that the owners were ordered to remove garbage from the property almost three years ago, but issues remain. “It’s been an ongoing battle with them,” Pfost said. “I can’t get them to do what is asked of them.”

Indiana Launches Program to Help Communities Leverage Federal COVID-19 Money

Indiana communities can get some “HELP” spending their American Rescue Plan money. The Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs officially announced its Hoosier Enduring Legacy Program (HELP) on Tuesday.
