Work is now underway to develop a five-year plan for Winamac’s park and recreation facilities. Katie Bierrum, who’s putting the comprehensive plan together as part of her coursework at Purdue University, discussed the plan with the Winamac Park Board Thursday. A Civil War reenactment planned in North Judson this fall may be canceled, due to a lack of volunteers. The event would commemorate the return of local soldiers at the end of the war in 1866 and would be part of the town’s celebration of Indiana’s Bicentennial. Continue reading

Starke County is planning a more realistic look when it comes to decorating its “bison-tennial” sculpture. Many of the state’s 92 counties are having local artists or students decorate a five-foot-tall fiberglass bison with a design that represents that particular county. Continue reading
