Ancilla College is getting a boost with its efforts to provide on-campus student housing. The Starke County Community Foundation has announced plans to provide a total of $105,000 in grant funding from its Hardesty Memorial Endowment Fund over the next five years. That includes an initial grant of $25,000 for the college’s new dorm building. AAA Urges Motorists Not to Hunt Pokémon While Driving

AAAThe AAA Hoosier Motor Club is now on the list of groups warning of the dangers of Pokémon Go. The augmented-reality gaming app allows players to use their phones to hunt characters hiding in the real world. AAA calls the game a “very dangerous distraction” for those attempting to play it while driving, saying it dramatically increases drivers’ risk of getting in a crash. Caucus Scheduled for Winamac Council Seat

A caucus has been scheduled to fill the vacancy on the Winamac Town Council. Pulaski County Republican Party Chair Blair Todd says precinct committee members will meet at the Pulaski County Public Library in Winamac on Monday, July 25 at 5:30 p.m. They will be choosing a replacement for former council president Kenneth McFarland, who passed away late last month. Winamac Council Approves Sewer Rate Hike

Sewer rates will soon be going up for Winamac residents. The Winamac Town Council gave its final approval to an ordinance Monday, raising the sewer rate by six percent. Eric Walsh with accounting firm Umbaugh and Associates says the increase will allow the town’s Wastewater Department to save about half a million dollars in the long term, by refinancing one of its outstanding bonds.  Continue reading
