A 17-year-old was arrested, after LaPorte County sheriff’s deputies say he was driving around with a loaded handgun. Police say they stopped a vehicle for a traffic infraction at the Go-Lo gas station on East Michigan Boulevard in Michigan City around 8:30 Wednesday night.

Road closures or lane restrictions are coming to highways in Starke, Pulaski, and LaPorte counties. Starting Thursday, April 8, U.S. 30 will be down to one lane in each direction over the Kankakee River, as part of a bridge deck overlay project. The North Judson-San Pierre School Corporation broke ground on its elementary school addition and renovation project Monday. It will add a 500-seat gym to the south side of the school. The existing gym will then be turned into additional cafeteria space, a multipurpose room, a maker space, a conference room, and a faculty dining room. The school’s HVAC and plumbing systems will be upgraded, and new paint, lighting, and cabinetry are planned for the interior.
