Sheriff’s deputies say they tried to pull over a westbound pickup truck in the 3500 block of East State Road 2, after a registration check reportedly alerted officers that the female owner was a wanted person. The male driver allegedly refused to stop and led officers on a chase through LaPorte.

Three people were hurt in a crash Wednesday at Starke County Road 300 East and Old U.S. 30. A photograph of the scene showed a damaged pickup truck and minivan off of the roadway. The Starke County Sheriff’s Office says Nellie Arndt, 84, was still trapped in her vehicle when deputies arrived, while Lee Nagai, 55, was out of his vehicle tending to a juvenile passenger with injuries.

Mayor Dennis Estok told the city council Tuesday that he plans to apply for the third round of the state’s COVID-19 Response Program. “I really think in our application that one of the questions that is going to be is, ‘Are you following the guidelines, the mask mandate, the social distancing, and all of that?’” Estok said.
