Winamac Park Officials Call for Better Communication, Coordination with Stakeholders

Winamac park officials are calling for better communication from the Town Park’s major users. The issue was raised during last week’s park board meeting, after Park Manager Aaron Spanley said the school hosted a cross country invitational but didn’t tell him ahead of time. “There is a lack of communication with the school and either with me or [Town Manager] Brad [Zellers] or the town, how they’re using our park,” Spanley said.

No Comments Offered on Oregon-Davis Budget Proposal

No one from the public came to comment on the Oregon-Davis School Corporation’s 2022 budget during last month’s public hearing, according to Superintendent Bill Bennett. The proposed budget totals more than $9.9 million. That includes an Education Fund of over $3.9 million, an Operations Fund of more than $3.2 million, and a Referendum Fund of almost $1.1 million.

Knox Council Agrees to Pay for Half of Water Filtration Updates with American Rescue Plan Money

The City of Knox will be dipping into its American Rescue Plan money to upgrade its water filtration system, but exactly how much it will cost still remains to be seen. The city council recently agreed to use the money to cover half the cost of replacing the filter media, at the recommendation of Mayor Dennis Estok.

Winamac Park Board to Address Legal Concerns before Donating to Swinging Bridge Project

The Winamac Park Board will need more time to decide whether to contribute financially to the Memorial Swinging Bridge Project. It would add decorative lighting to the Town Park’s “swinging bridge” in time for its centennial in 2023.

Veterans Treatment Court’s Impact Expected to Be Felt by Entire Community

Military veterans are a sizable part of Pulaski County’s population, but its veterans treatment court could have ripple effects throughout the broader community. Dr. Natalie Tucker is the program’s coordinator. “Pulaski County has about 12,500 residents, and we have over 1,000 veterans,” Tucker says, “so you’re talking almost 10-percent of our community has served in one of the branches of the military.”

Memorial Swinging Bridge Project, Five-Year Plan to Be Discussed by Winamac Park Board

The Memorial Swinging Bridge Project will continue to be discussed during tonight’s Winamac Park Board meeting. Eric Galbreath is scheduled to offer comments on the project that would add a decorative lighting feature to the Town Park’s “swinging bridge.” Board members have been considering offering a monetary contribution, to supplement private donations.

North Judson-Wayne Township Fire Chief Urges Residents to Help Prevent Brush Fires

Local firefighters are urging residents to do their part to prevent brush fires. “We’re starting to get into that fall weather, brush fire awareness,” North Judson-Wayne Township Fire Chief Joe Leszek told the town council Monday. “If it’s windy, it’s really dry, don’t burn. Use common sense. Keep your fires maintained. So hopefully, that’ll cut down on some of our brush fires this year.”
