Starke County Sheriff Bill Dulin will discuss the staffing needs for the new jail with the county commissioners when they meet this evening. The facility east of Knox on State Road 8 is scheduled to open in June and will house nearly twice as many inmates as the existing jail. The advance agenda for the 6 p.m. meeting indicates Dulin will ask for permission to hire two more full-time jail officers. Several applicants in Indiana have been awarded funds to help fight blighted homes.
According to the Lt. Governor’s office dozens of municipalities and counties received funds from the BEP, otherwise known as the Blight Elimination Program. Among those receiving dollars is Pulaski County.

FAFSA Deadline Looming, Ancilla College Schedules Workshops
The clock is ticking for prospective college students to complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Ancilla College Executive Director of Admissions Eric Wignall encourages anyone who may be considering college next year to fill out the FAFSA.

Neighboring Business Hope They’re Unaffected By Child Porn Arrest
Neighboring businesses are commenting on an alleged incident that landed a Knox man in jail on Child Molesting and other counts.
According to police, 67-year-old Robert Wisilinski was arrested after a couple of missing juvenile calls led officers to his Heaton Street address. After refusing to answer the door, Wisilinski was spotted exiting the home with one of the missing juveniles.

A social media post about the dangers of texting and driving could land a student a scholarship toward post-secondary education.
Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann is encouraging high school and college students to put together a campaign on social media to drive now and text later. Texting while driving is illegal in the state, but it’s not preventing drivers to type a message. Cell phones are a constant in the world, but it’s best to wait to check or type text messages until after you reach your destination.

Knox Police Seeking Public’s Help in Identifying Child Pornography Victims
Additional charges could be filed against a Knox man accused of molesting a young boy at his Heaton Street home. Robert M. Wisilinski, 67, is charged with child molesting as a level 1 felony, child solicitation as a level 5 felony and child pornography as a level 6 felony. Ancilla College Board Adopts Flat, Fixed Tuition Rate
The Ancilla College board of Trustees has adopted a flat, fixed tuition rate for $14,100 per year rather than charge a per-credit hour fee. President Ken Zirkle says it encourages students to take a full course load each semester and graduate on time. Area Students to Take Shortened ISTEP Exam Next Week
This year’s shortened ISTEP exam will be taken at all of the local schools next week. The test window begins today.
Governor Mike Pence signed into law SEA 62, the bill that allows the Indiana Department of Education to shorten this year’s ISTEP test. The test would have been more than 12 hours for third grade students.
The test will begin on Monday at most schools and Tuesday at others. Students will be tested in the next two weeks. The window closes March 11.
Daylight Saving Time Begins March 8
Daylight Saving Time begins Sunday, March 8 at 2 a.m. local time. Before you go to bed on March 7, make sure that you set your clock ahead one hour or move it ahead one hour at 2 a.m. on Sunday.
The Indiana State Fire Marshal encourages residents to change the batteries in smoke detectors when the time is changed. It serves as a reminder to make sure fresh batteries are installed as they should be changed twice a year.
Missing Juvenile Calls Lead to Child Porn Discovery
Knox Police are conducting an investigation after they received a call of two missing juveniles on Sunday.
Officers were able to locate one of the individuals cited as missing without incident. It was learned that the second juvenile was at a residence on Heaton Street in Knox.
