The annual Victory Christian Church harvest party was extra special this year as members of the congregation burned their mortgage. The fellowship was founded in 1993 by Jim and Brenda Pradke and went from meeting in their living room to the old California Township school building. Christmas stocking care packages will be sent to military members serving overseas this year thanks to Operation Quiet Comfort of Marshall County. They are asking for $10 donations to fill stockings with a beef stick, granola bar, hand and toe warmers, a pair of white socks, assorted seasonal goodies and special written holiday cards from members of the nonprofit organization. Formal charges are pending against the man accused of hitting and biting another man at a Bremen residence early this morning. Officers from the Marshall County Police Department responded to 1426 Jute Road in Bremen at 12:43 a.m. for a report of a fight in progress. A man told them Larry W. Baltes, 40, had hit him in the face and bitten his upper thigh. The victim refused medical treatment, according to a news release. Baltes was arrested on preliminary charges of battery resulting in moderate injury, public intoxication and disorderly conduct.
A Knox man was killed Tuesday evening in a head-on collision in on the Jasper-Porter County line. Timothy A. Jacobs, 52, was pronounced dead upon arrival at Porter Regional Hospital, according to a report in the “Northwest Indiana Times.” Continue reading

Ancilla College is offering students hands on training and real life experience internship opportunities with local businesses. Students will have the chance to go out and work in positions they are interested in to see if they like it. The Gary man police there say confessed to killing seven women, including a Knox native, has pleaded not guilty in connection with two of the homicides. Darren Vann, 43, has been formally charged in the deaths of Afrika Hardy, whose body was found in a Hammond motel room on Oct. 17th, and Anith Jones, who was one of six women discovered in abandoned homes in Gary. The man convicted of killing a Purdue University student in January at the West Lafayette campus was found dead in his cell at the state prison in Michigan City last night, according to Indiana State Prison officials. An autopsy is scheduled for Cody Cousins, 24. Continue reading

A Plymouth School Bus driver faces charges in connection with a hit-and-run accident. It happened on Friday, Oct. 17 in the 16000 block of Cook Lake Trail and was reported to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department at 7:41 a.m. A resident told a Marshall County Sheriff’s Deputy her vehicle was parked in her driveway at the time.
