Starke County Commissioners Approve Change Order for 300 East Project
The Starke County Commissioners Monday approved a $70,000 change order to add a right turn lane to the rebuilt intersection of State Road 8 and County Road 300 East. Starke County Commissioners Accept Bridge Bids
Work on two replacement bridges in Starke County will begin as soon as possible. The county commissioners Monday accepted bids from LaPorte Construction Company for the bridge on County Road 800 East over Eagle Creek and the bridge on County Road 900 South over Bogus Run. Starke County Commissioners Approve Ambulance Service Expansion
The Starke County EMS base in North Judson will soon have a paramedic on duty around the clock. The county commissioners approved the expansion of Advanced Life Support, or ALS, service to that base immediately and to Grovertown starting Jan. 1. Knox already has 24-hour ALS coverage. ISTEP Scores Mixed for Area School Corporations
Indiana students overall showed improvement on their ISTEP scores in both math and language arts. Scores released yesterday by the Indiana Department of Education indicate 80.7 percent of students passed English, compared to 79.5 percent in 2013. Math scores went up from 83 to 83.5 percent statewide. Continue reading

The former Walkerton Library director is scheduled to appear in federal court today. Scott Klingerman is accused of spending more than $40,000 worth of library funds on vacations, gas, car insurance and a health club membership. Continue reading

The Starke County Commissioners will discuss the salary for the new county EMS director when they meet this morning. They’re still searching for a replacement for Paul Matthewson, who resigned from the director’s position July 1. Watch for School Bus Traffic as the School Season Starts
Students will be headed back to classrooms next week and Indiana State Police officers urge you to watch for school bus traffic.
When approaching a school bus from any direction and it is stopped with its flashing red lights activated and stop arm extended, motorists are required to stop, even on multiple lane highways. Motorists who are on a highway that is divided by a barrier or unimproved median are required to stop only if they are traveling in the same direction as the school bus. If there is no unimproved median or barrier, then all lanes in all directions must stop.
