According to a press release, the U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation that encourages donations. The bill, also known as the Fighting Hunger Incentive Act permanently extends the deduction for businesses to donate food inventory to local food pantries.

The “Kids Count In Indiana 2015” Data Book says suicide has been the second-leading cause of death for residents between the ages of 15 and 24 in the Hoosier State. The report covers numerous topics, including health, population, and economic data.

The North Judson-San Pierre School Board has decided to follow suit and adopt their next school year calendar.

A wind chill advisory will take effect this afternoon and remain in place through midday tomorrow. Dangerous wind chill values between 10 and 25 below zero are expected late this afternoon through tomorrow morning. Prolonged exposure to extreme cold can lead to hypothermia and frostbite in 30 minutes or less. If you have to be outside, wear a hat and gloves and protect exposed skin.

A Republican caucus will be held next week to fill a vacancy on the Pulaski County Council.
Pulaski County Republican Chairman Blair Todd told WKVI News that the three precinct committeeman in Cass, White Post and Salem Townships will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 6 p.m. ET at the Pulaski County Public Library in Winamac to select a candidate in District 4.
Kevin Holcomb appeared for a hearing in Pulaski Circuit Court this week. He is facing charges in a December battery incident.
Holcomb, 45, of Star City has pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted murder and aggravated battery. He was allegedly involved in a battery incident in which Todd E. Schultz, 41, received extensive head and face injuries at a home in the area of 900 South and 440 East in Star City. Schultz was taken to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne for treatment.
Pulaski County Community Development Commission Executive Director Nathan Origer told the county commissioners last night that the county is the recipient of an $82,355 Region 1 Works Council for a Career and Technical Education (CTE) innovative-curriculum grant.
Origer said the grant will fund a Pulaski County Repair and Maintenance Technology (RAM-Tech) program at West Central High School to give students the skills they need to be successful in an industrial setting.
The Knox School Board reviewed building plans and proposed budget figures for the elementary school addition project with a representative of the architectural firm of Barton-Coe-Vilamaa when it met Monday night. Marshall County voters will soon have a new way to sign-in to vote at the polls.
Steve Shamo from KnowInk gave the commissioners a demonstration of how e-poll books can save a lot of hassle at voting sites. The voter’s Driver’s License is swiped into a reader that confirms the voter’s identity on an iPad screen. The voter then signs with a finger or iPad writing device. The poll worker can confirm that the Driver’s License signature matches the handwritten signature. The voter can also be manually input into the system. A receipt will print to show that the voter did sign in at the polls. Once that process is done, a legal ballot may be filled out and submitted.
The North Judson Town Council has decided to review a few alterations to their fee schedule.
During Monday night’s meeting, Council members saw proposals to change or even remove certain fees on first reading. Changes can be made to gain revenue, or even remove items that are viewed as unnecessary.

They’ve scheduled a presentation about completing the FAFSA at 6 p.m. and will remain to help parents and students complete the form. A report will be filed with the Starke County Prosecutor’s Office after a four-year-old child was found walking alone down State Road 8 in the area of County Road 1100 East.
The person who made the call picked up the child and waited until an officer arrived at the scene. The officer attempted to locate the child’s home but was unsuccessful. The officer also could not find the child’s parents, so the child’s custody was turned over to the Department of Child Services, according to a press release.
A Knox teen is being held in the Starke County Jail in connection with a Sunday morning burglary incident.
Officials in the Starke County Dispatch Center fielded a call from a victim in the 7000 South block of 250 West in North Judson. The victim told police that he was outside and saw two men coming out of his garage with arms full of his tools, according to a press release. Chainsaws, a portable welder, hand tools and other power tools were reportedly taken.
Four individuals were arrested in Marshall County on Thursday, and it took a bit of cooperation through multiple law enforcement agencies to make it happen.
According to a press release from the Indiana State Police, a saturation patrol was being conducted in Marshall County on Thursday of last week. The effort was made due to the areas’ ongoing methamphetamine problem. Multiple traffic stops were conducted in Plymouth and the surrounding areas according to the report.
