Two men were arrested in LaPorte County on Wednesday after a drug investigation by the LaPorte County Metro Operations Unit.
A search warrant was executed by LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department Warrants Division officers in the 1200 block of Jackson Street in LaPorte where drug evidence was seized.
Several defendants were sentenced in Starke Circuit Court Thursday morning.
Devin Trusty pleaded guilty in a plea agreement with the State to a charge of operating a vehicle with a lifetime suspension. Magistrate Jeanene Calabrese accepted the plea agreement which called for a sentence of three years in the Indiana Department of Corrections with no part of the sentence suspended. While incarcerated, trusty will participate in a therapeutic community. If he successfully completes the CLIFF or GRIP program, he may petition the court for a modification of his sentence.
The LaPorte Police Department is getting an early start on Labor Day traffic enforcement. Starting today and continuing through Sept. 1 officers will be taking part in a “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” blitz. Knox City officials have several options to consider when it comes to curbing vandalism at Wythogan Park. Mayor Rick Chambers hosted a community discussion last night to gather thoughts on the issue. He says several good suggestions were offered.
The director of the Pulaski County Community Development Commission (CDC) requested a transfer of funds to work on zoning ordinances.
Nathan Origer told the Pulaski County Council members that he is an advisor to the plan commission and said the zoning ordinances were not done professionally and they need to be to fit the needs of the county.
The Knox City Council members were presented with the 2015 budget and the budget calendar during Tuesday night’s meeting.
Clerk-Treasurer Jeff Houston explained that the budget process has been pushed back a bit due to a pilot program with which the county is involved.

Pulaski County Maintenance Director Jeff Johnston presented the county council members Monday night with several issues with the Justice Center.
Johnston explained the issues.
“The air units on the rooftop of the Justice Center are 17 years old and they have 15 year life spans. Four of them have already failed and the fifth one is failing now. We’re replaced four this year. We still have seven that are about to give it up. We’ve got three water heaters in the upstairs room, one of which failed its inspection from the state. We’ve replaced it but another one started leaking out of the bottom. Those machines are also past their life span by about seven years. We have two water softeners in that same room that are also leaking out of the top and they’re getting ready to go as well,” said Johnston.
Knox Park Superintendent George Byer gave an update to the Knox City Council members last night on the state of the city’s parks.
Byer said since the vandalism has tapered off a bit, the park crews have been able to work in Heritage Park. They’ve installed a bench, a swing set, teeter-totter, and rehabilitated the monkey bars. Water Superintendent Todd Gardner will be helping the park department with running a line for a water fountain at the park. The board has plans to build a shelter at the park next year.
