Sharps Disposal Contract Approved for Starke Health Department

Bicentennial Torch Celebration Planned Tonight at Wythogan Park
Starke County will mark its place in Indiana history today when the state bicentennial torch comes through the county. Celebration coordinator Dave Pearman says the intent of the 92 county torch relay and yearlong observance is to have every Hoosier take part in the festivities. The torch will come up U.S. 35 from Pulaski into Starke County around 4:30 p.m. CDT and will be shepherded through 20 marked spots by prominent members of the community or their representatives. Knox School Board Approves Master Teacher Agreement
The Knox School Board has ratified its master teacher agreement with some teachers seeing a bit of a bump in salary.
During Monday’s School Board meeting, it was noted that Knox teachers have not seen a salary increase in about three years. That is largely explained by declining enrollment in rural school corporations in past years.
Culver School Board to Meet with State School Boards Association Regarding Superintendent Search
The Culver School Board continues to gather information about how to proceed with a search for a new superintendent. Chuck Kitchell has been serving in an interim capacity since last December. Starke County Highway Department Maximizes Federal and State Funding
The Starke County Highway Department has parlayed available federal and state funds into significant road improvements. Superintendent Rik Ritzler told the county commissioners Monday the county was awarded more than $1 million in Federal Highway Administration construction funds to replace the bridge on 1200 East across the Yellow River. Community Center Donations Sought as Grant Deadline Looms
Donations continue rolling in for the proposed North Judson-Wayne Township Community Center. North Judson Clerk-Treasurer Alicia Collins says about $10,000 has been collected so far in monetary donations. Starke County Prepares for Bicentennial Torch Visit
Starke County residents are preparing for a celebration 200 years in the making. The Indiana Bicentennial Torch will travel up U.S. 35 from Pulaski into Starke County around 5:30 p.m. tomorrowevening, according to the schedule posted on the state’s website. Starke is the 76th of Indiana’s 92 counties the torch is visiting on its 3,200 mile journey. Continue reading

Starke Poll Workers Urged to Attend Voting Machine Tests, Training Sessions
Starke County poll workers are encouraged to attend tomorrow’s vote machine testing if possible to familiarize themselves with the technology. Vendor MicroVote will test the electronic machines at 1 p.m. outside the clerk’s office at the Starke County Courthouse. Members of the public are also welcome to come see how the ballot will appear and how the machines work. Continue reading
