Starke Commissioners to Consider CAFO Fees

Starke County CommissionersThe Starke County Commissioners will consider amendments to the confined animal feeding ordinance fee schedule when they meet this evening. The Starke County Plan Commission recently approved a flat $500 flat permit, along with a $75 filing fee to offset the cost of processing the application. They also doubled the re-inspection fee to $100 for all permits. It will be charged when the county is called out to conduct an inspection, but the work is deemed to be incomplete. Continue reading

Knox Wraps Up Street Paving, Prepares for Larger Road Projects

 The City of Knox used one-time money from the state to pave additional streets this year. Street Superintendent Jeff Borg told the Board of Works on Wednesday they used $74,000 in Community Crossings grant funds along with the $54,100 in local money budgeted for street paving to have Rieth-Reilly Construction Co., Inc. do the work and said he’s happy with the finished product. LaPorte Hospital CEO Resigns, Interim Named

The CEO of LaPorte Hospital has resigned. G. Thor Thordarson was also serving as interim CEO of Starke Hospital, following the recent departure of Craig Felty. Hospital officials say the search for a permanent CEO will begin immediately with input from members of the board of trustees, medical staff and administration. Continue reading

Additional Homes Added to Knox Blight Elimination Grant

The City of Knox will be able to demolish a total of 10 houses with funds from a blight elimination grant. Mayor Dennis Estok told the city council Tuesday the Indiana Housing & Community Development Authority has accepted the final two structures into the program. Continue reading
