The Starke County Highway Department is poised to save more than $300,000 by contracting out the replacement of a bridge with a culvert. Knox School Board Approves HVAC Repairs
Things got a bit warm in some areas of Knox High School, recently.
That’s why Knox School Board members on Monday agreed to use Rainy Day funds to update some of the HVAC units at the school building. The board sought out different Types of HVAC System from Hero Services and ensured that it applied at least two of those systems into their school. The air conditioning units are reaching the end of their normal life, about 15 years, causing some interruptions in cooling at the building. Continue reading

Flood Warning Issued for Kankakee Valley Area
A flood warning is in effect for much of the WKVI listening area until mid-afternoon. Areas covered by the warning from the National Weather Service include Starke, Northwestern Marshall, Northwestern Pulaski, Southeastern LaPorte and St. Joseph Counties. Since yesterday, between 4 and 8 inches of rain have fallen over the warning area, with additional showers expected to bring between one-fourth and one-half inch of additional rainfall. They’re still working out the last of the details of the agreement, which will clear the way for construction of a new hospital on the current site at the intersection of South Heaton Street and Culver Road in Knox. Irrigation Ordinance Prompts Farmer Outcry
An ordinance looking to better regulate the use of irrigation equipment in Pulaski County failed to gain traction, Monday night.
The Pulaski County Commissioners considered the ordinance – which would have prevented irrigation sprinklers from spraying on local roadways to improve motorist safety. The ordinance also attempted to install signage and establish a fine system for violations of the law.

N.J.-S.P. School Board to Meet at High School Tonight
The North Judson-San Pierre School Board will announce tonight what process they might favor in terms of transitioning from an appointed to an elected board. Members conducted a work session last month with representatives of the Bluejay Nation Pride group and their attorney to discuss the process. Elected school board advocate Matt Bailey says that group is prepared to move forward next month with the necessary petition to bring the question to the voters if the school board does not act. Appeals Court Upholds Starke County Sentence
The Indiana Court of Appeals has upheld a sentence from Starke Circuit Court. A jury found Steven A. Garland guilty of strangulation as a Level 6 felony in September of 2015, and Starke Circuit Judge Kim Hall sentenced him to 30 months in prison. Continue reading

INDOT to Help Winamac with Highway Tree Removal
