Ora Man Arrested Following Pulaski County Pursuit
Formal charges are pending against an Ora man who fled from Pulaski County Sheriff’s Deputies on a 4-wheeler yesterday afternoon. The incident started around 4:30 p.m. in the area of 500 North west of U.S. 35 in Pulaski County when deputy tried to stop the ATV, driven by 43-year-old James Hurt of Ora. He took off and later crashed the 4-wheeler in the area of 100 West and 600 North in Pulaski County, where he took off on foot. Continue reading
County Officials Finalizing Starke Hospital Lease Negotiations
The Starke County Commissioners are close to finalizing an agreement with the new owners of Starke Hospital to clear the way for construction of a new building. The county owns the current structure at the corner of Heaton Street and Culver Road in Knox and the land on which is sits, but the hospital is operated by Tennessee-based Community Health Systems. Hamlet Town Council Approves Budget Cuts
The Hamlet Town Council last week made cuts to the 2016 budget in anticipation of their 2017 spending plan. Clerk-Treasurer Kristina Pitts advised after meeting with officials from the Department of Local Government Finance that the town needs to zero out its general fund cushion in order to avoid a state-mandated cut. Knox Schools Schedule Back-to-School Night
Students in the Knox Community School Corporation return to class on Thursday, Aug. 4. Parents of students in all grade levels are invited to a back-to-school night on Wednesday, Aug. 3 from 4 until 6 p.m. at their child’s school. Also, 6th grade orientation will take place at 6 p.m. tonight in the middle school cafeteria.

Construction Project to Close LaPorte County Intersection
Starting today, motorists traveling to Westville and beyond on U.S. 421 will need to find a new route. INDOT is shutting down the intersection of 421 and State Road 2 through the end of October, with no traffic allowed to pass through in either direction. Continue reading
