The Town of Culver has moved ahead with annexing land for a future development.
During Tuesday night’s meeting, Council members considered a couple of items related to the annexation. The 13 acres resides in Union Township in the 500 block of West Jefferson Street. To properly bring utilities to the area, the owner petitioned the Town to annex the land.

The North Judson-San Pierre School Board last week approved an amended agreement with The Crossing alternative school. The Knox-based campus opened in 2014 and was billed as an option for students who have been expelled from or dropped out of public school or who have otherwise fallen through the cracks to complete high school. The Indiana Farm Bureau says it is meeting with INDOT officials to discuss transportation issues on Tuesday in LaPorte.
Knox residents will start receiving their new curbside recycling carts tomorrow. City officials say they should place their open recycling totes at the curb, even if they are empty. Waste Management will pick them up and drop off the new, 64-gallon wheeled container. Continue reading
The Starke County Council last week approved funds transfers necessary to shore up the jail operating budget through the end of the year.

The North Judson-San Pierre School Board will revisit plans to close the current elementary school building at a future meeting, according to Superintendent Dr. Annette Zupin. It will open as a kindergarten-6th grade facility when school starts next week following action by the board at a special-called May 9th meeting. New North Judson-San Pierre Elementary School students can register for classes starting today. Registration for students in Kindergarten through 6th grade runs from 9 a.m. until noon and 1 until 3 p.m. today through Friday at the school. Continue reading

Starke County residents continue making progress on this year’s Moving Starke County Forward walking challenge. So far, 143 participants have logged over 6,300 miles as part of “Starke County Walks to the Moon,” according to the organization. Continue reading
The reconfigured North Judson-San Pierre Schools are almost ready for students, according to information shared with the school board Tuesday night. Director of Facilities Wilbur Collins says the original coolers in the high school cafeteria have been replaced, and a new rubber roof with a 15-year warranty is now in place over the high school office. Patients at a local nursing home are enjoying fresh vegetables, thanks to the efforts of the staff and inmates at the Starke County Jail. Their garden is in full bloom with green peppers, zucchini and cabbage. Yesterday Sheriff Bill Dulin and Maintenance Supervisor Tony Mildice brought vegetables to Golden Living Center in Knox.
