WoodStarke Planning Continues

WoodStarke logoPlans are moving ahead for the third annual WoodStarke festival. Visitors to this September’s event in Wythogan Park in Knox can expect to see several musical acts and various types of artwork, including woodcarving, photography, and painting. Organizer Jacob Lippner says there are even plans to work with library representatives to incorporate the written word into WoodStarke 3. FEMA Seeks Regional Youth Preparedness Council Candidates

fema-logo-mainFEMA has extended the deadline for applications from prospective Youth Preparedness Council members to July 15th.

The agency is seeking current students in grades 8-11 who want to become a regional advocate for youth disaster preparedness. The FEMA Region V Youth Preparedness Council offers youth leaders a unique opportunity to make a difference in their communities while sharing their opinions, experiences, ideas, solutions and questions on youth disaster preparedness with the regional leadership of FEMA. BackpackKankakee Valley REMC wants to make sure children are property equipped for the start of the new school year.

The member-owned electrical cooperative has launched its third annual Pack A Backpack school supply drive. Marketing Director Amanda Steeb says they want to help local families throughout their service area who might be struggling fulfill the necessary list of school supplies for their children. Federal Freedom to Marry Law Celebrates Anniversary

  
 

There are a lot of first wedding anniversaries being celebrated by couples who raced to the altar after the Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage across the nation last year. Former Freedom to Marry President Evan Wolfson says many of those couples thought they’d never be able to make their union legal. Since the court’s decision, more than a million people have gotten married. Wolfson says most Americans have been embracing them. Continue reading

TCS Officials Cut Ribbon on New Facility

TCS Ribbon CuttingA Knox-based business has plenty of room to grow. Traffic Control Specialists, Inc. officials cut the ribbon for their new, state-of-the-art headquarters in the Knox Industrial Park yesterday. The company specializes in work zone safety and is the leading provider of signs and service throughout northern Indiana. President Tracy Triska says they were afraid they would have to look beyond Starke County for a new home. Continue reading
