Culver to Contact INDOT for SR 10 Speed Reduction
State Road 10 in Culver may see its speed limit reduced, but the change may take up to one year.
The Culver Town Council on Tuesday night considered a request from the Plan Commission to reduce the speed limit on the state highway. No specifics were introduced, but Police Chief Wayne Bean says lowering the speed limit from 45 mph to 35 mph may be appropriate.

Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum Suspends LaCrosse Trips Amid Legal Dispute
The Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum has canceled all of its excursions to LaCrosse until further notice. The museum blames the cancellations on an ongoing legal dispute over control of the railroad line. It’s owned by the Town of North Judson and operated by the Chesapeake & Indiana Railroad. Knox Council Approves Band Stage Funding
The City of Knox did not receive a grant to build a band stage at Wythogan Park, but that doesn’t mean the project will be scrapped. Mayor Dennis Estok told the city council last night the city has received a $10,000 anonymous donation for the project. The Knox Redevelopment Commission has also set aside $40,000 for it. North Judson Physician Spearheads Pioneer Cemetery Project
A local physician and his wife are spearheading efforts to restore a once-proud piece of North Judson’s history to its former glory. Dennis and Margaret Dalphond’s beautification efforts at Pioneer Cemetery on Talmer Avenue behind Norwayne Field are actually a continuation of the family legacy. Norwayne Field was a WPA project during the Great Depression, and Margaret’s grandfather, Joseph Pacilio, Sr., helped to build it. Continue reading
N.J.-S.P. Board Ratifies Restructuring
The North Judson-San Pierre School Board Monday night took steps to officially reflect their grade restructuring. The move of 6th grade to the elementary school and transition to a combined junior/senior high school requires some changes in order to conform to state law. Continue reading
O-D Board Ratifies Personnel Action
Bruce Hirschy, a Social Studies instructor at the O-D School, has announced his retirement. During his 19 years at the school he also coached basketball and cross country. Assistant Girls Varsity Basketball coach Wesley Radtke was on the list of resignations and non-renewals. He will continue to teach but will no longer coach girls basketball. Continue reading
Eastern Pulaski Announces Transfer Guidelines
The Eastern Pulaski School Corporation will accept transfer students from other corporations for the 2016-17 school year. Indiana’s law changed in 2013 to allow students to more easily move between districts. Corporations are required to annually establish the number of students they can accept and the cutoff date for transfers. Continue reading
Culver Alcohol Ordinance Looks to Modernize Local Events
The Culver Town Council is taking steps to allow alcohol in the Town Park for special events.
Alcohol is currently disallowed in the park for casual consumption and, even with the change, will continue to be against Town ordinance. Members of the Culver Town Council, however, desired to modernize its current law to allow alcohol for special events.

The North Judson-San Pierre School Board is prepared to offer the superintendent job to an administrator within the corporation. Board President Pat Goin confirmed during last night’s public hearing on the proposed contract that high school Principal Dr. Annette Zupin will be offered the job at next week’s regularly scheduled meeting. West Central Anticipates Enrollment Decline
Enrollment projections for 2016-17 indicate West Central is losing students. Superintendent Don Street says they have more graduates leaving than they have anticipated kindergarten students enrolling this fall. That leaves a projected enrollment of 800 students, compared to 820 this year. Continue reading

The Knox City Council will consider a revised golf cart ordinance when they meet this evening. The proposed city policy mirrors the county golf cart ordinance. It requires owners to register their vehicles. They would be subject to inspections, and an annual fee would be charged. Continue reading
North Judson Preparing for Wastewater Grant Application
The Town of North Judson continues to move ahead with its efforts to get funding to help update some of the plans for the town’s wastewater facilities. Commonwealth Engineers plans to update the long-term control plan for the town’s wastewater treatment plant. Continue reading
Property Owners May Qualify for Tax Exemptions
Property owners may qualify for real estate tax exemptions based on their age, disability status and whether or not they are a military veteran. The exemptions lower the amount of taxes due. Mortgage-holders qualify for a deduction of $3,000 if they reside on their real property, including mobile homes. It can be combined with other exemptions. A second exemption that’s available to owners who reside on their real estate, including mobile homes, is the homestead credit, also known as the standard deduction. Homestead credit mounts vary.
