Tourism Grant Dollars Earmarked for Rail Line Updates

Hoosier Valley Railroad MuseumThe Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum is the beneficiary of an Indiana Office of Tourism Development matching grant. The agency awarded the Town of North Judson a $31,897 Destination Development Grant.

That money will be used to increase awareness of the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum among leisure travelers and enhance marketing efforts of both the attraction and state tourism. Officials say the Destination Development grant program is intended to help local economies grow by promoting the travel, tourism and hospitality industries. Continue reading

U.S. 20 Sees Safety Upgrades Following Multiple Vehicle Crashes

DermodySections of a road considered a bit unsafe will be receiving an upgrade in the near future.

Engineers with the Indiana Department of Transportation held a meeting with representatives of a private school in LaPorte County called the Renaissance Academy, and the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department. The gathering was held following a multi-car pileup on the road. Several were reported injured in the incident.

Sen. Charbonneau Reviews Legislative Session in Winamac Appearance

State Senator Ed Charbonneau appeared in Winamac on Wednesday afternoon to review a few accomplishments from the 2016 legislative session.

Meeting with community members at One-Eyed Jack’s restaurant, Charbonneau addressed residents about Indiana’s road funding plan. The legislation – which received approval near the end of the session – aims to provide about $800-million in road funding for state and local roadways.

Indiana’s new lieutenant governor says the Regional Cities Initiative will pay dividends beyond the counties that are part of the coalition. Eric Holcomb has been on the job for two weeks, following Sue Ellsperman’s resignation. He spoke yesterday in LaPorte at one of four regional Office of Community and Rural Affairs symposium. He says the three grants will pay dividends beyond the participating counties by investing in quality of place. Continue reading

No ISTEP, Now What?

 
 

Officials with the Eastern Pulaski School Corporation are not sad to see the ISTEP test go by the wayside. State lawmakers voted to scrap the controversial exam at the end of 2017. Superintendent Dan Foster says that decision raises some questions, like why to even give the test next year.

Foster told the school board Monday night it’s unclear at this time what will replace ISTEP. Continue reading
