The Knox Board of Works received a lone bid for installation of a lift station to serve the new Traffic Control Specialists facility. INDOT Travel Status Update
As of 9am Central Time 10am Eastern Time: Snow has tapered off and winds are starting to subside. Snow on the ground is very wet and heavy and is packing on many secondary roadways. In Lake, Porter, Jasper, Laporte, Marshall and Fulton Counties, many east/west secondary roads are impassable due to the heavy, wet snow and snow drifts. Also some secondary roads are completely closed in sections due to disabled vehicles. Snowfall totals range from 8”-20” in the district. Primary roads, to include Interstates are in decent to fair shape, mainly wet to slushy. Secondary roads are slushy to snow covered and will need attention most of the day. Continue reading
NIPSCO Reports Widespread Outages
NIPSCO crews are still working to restore power throughout northern Indiana. Heavy snow and high winds brought by yesterday’s blizzard knocked out power to 39,000 customers.
Storm conditions are expected to continue today, with the potential for additional heavy wind gusts through Friday. NIPSCO expects a multi-day cleanup effort. Once the storm subsides, NIPSCO will be able to make a better assessment on estimated restorations times – which could improve or worsen depending on the weather conditions. INDOT Cautions Motorists Not to Travel
Roads across northern Indiana are slick, slushy and quickly filling with blowing snow, according to INDOT officials. They advise moderate to heavy drifting is occurring in rural areas due to gusty winds. Lake effect snow is also falling in Porter, LaPorte and St. Joseph Counties. Travel Warnings in Effect for Several Counties
LaPorte, Marshall and Fulton Counties have upgraded to travel warnings. The “red level” is the highest level of local travel advisory. It means travel may be restricted to emergency management workers only. Continue reading
Winamac Enacts Snow Emergency Parking Plan
The Town of Winamac’s snow emergency parking plan is in effect through noon EST on Friday, Feb. 26th. During this time, on-street parking is restricted to the odd-addressed side of the streets. Doing so facilitates keeping streets open, movement of emergency vehicles and snow removal after the storm is over.
Travel Advisories, Watches in Effect
Starke, Marshall, Pulaski and LaPorte Counties are under an orange-level travel watches. That means conditions are threatening to the safety of the public. During a “watch” local travel advisory, only essential travel, such as to and from work or in emergency situations, is recommended, and emergency action plans should be implemented by businesses, schools, government agencies, and other organizations. Stay Safe When Winter Weather Hits
Significant amounts of snow are in the forecast. Officials with the Indiana Department of Homeland Security and Indiana State Police recommend avoiding unnecessary travel once the snow starts. If you do have to go out, make sure your cell phone is fully charged. Have a vehicle emergency kit, non-perishable food and bottles of water in your car. Knox Set to Enforce Truck Route Ordinance

Culver School Board Approves 2016-2017 Calendar
The Culver School Board officially approved the 2016-2017 School Calendar Monday, after delaying their decision due to a conflict with the state’s testing schedule. At the board’s meeting earlier this month, Interim Superintendent Chuck Kitchell told members that the PSAT was scheduled to be given during the time Culver and several other corporations were planning to have fall break. Pulaski Plan Commission Makes Identical Appointment for Plan Administrator Position
The Pulaski County Advisory Plan Commission has decided to take the step of also appointing a Plan Administrator.
During their meeting Monday night, members of the board made the decision to remove the former Building Inspector/Plan Director at the committee level and, at the same time, appoint Doug Hoover to the job. The decision is an added layer to an identical appointment already made by the Pulaski County Board of Commissioners.

The Town of Culver now has language to make the process for shutting off a resident’s water utility access more enforceable.
During the previous Culver Town Council meeting, a policy was presented outlining the process for cutting utility service to a home or residence.

Authorities in LaPorte say a 63-year-old woman lost nearly $5,500 in an IRS phone scam. She told police she received several telephone calls from a number with a 916 area code but did not answer them. Continue reading

K9 Finds Heroin During Traffic Stop
A Monday afternoon traffic stop by a Starke County Sheriff’s Deputy for a registration violation resulted in the arrests of three Knox residents on drug charges. It happened around 1 p.m. at the Bass Lake gas station, according to a news release. Continue reading
