Court Process Protections Developed for Rape Victims Under Bill
State Senator Ed Charbonneau is sponsoring a bill designed to give protections to rape victims in the state of Indiana.
The bill, House Enrolled Act 1064, is designed to develop a process whereby rape victims may file a petition in the courts to end the parental relationship between an alleged rapist and a child conceived as the result of a violent sexual act.

Special Exception Sunday Sales Bill Headed to Governor’s Desk
Indiana could make an exception to its ban on Sunday alcohol sales this year to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the greatest spectacle in racing. State Rep. Firefighters Find Body in Kingsford Heights Trailer
A mobile home fire in LaPorte County claims a life. It occurred thismorning at 7701 South U.S. 6 and 35, according to officials with the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office. That’s just outside of Kingsford Heights. The Kingsford-Union and Kingsbury Fire Departments were dispatched to a medical alarm call at 9:19 a.m. They arrived five minutes later and found smoke coming from inside the trailer. Alcohol Believed Factor in LaPorte County Fatality
One person is dead and another is hospitalized in critical condition following a single-vehicle crash near LaCrossee late last night. Patrol deputies from the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department responded at 11:17 p.m. to State Road 8 just east of 600 West. They found a black 1999 Dodge Ram truck on its side. Continue reading

Knox Begins Truck Route Enforcement
Enforcement of truck routes through the city of Knox is now in effect. Mayor Dennis Estok says the goal is to get tractor-trailers off Culver Road as they travel between U.S. 35 and the Knox Industrial Park on Klockner Drive.
Estok told the city council last week tractor trailers pose safety concerns in the school zones. Trucks will not be allowed on Washington or Lake Streets, either. Truck route signs will be posted to alert drivers. Continue reading
Charbonneau’s Water Inventory Bill Heads to the Governor
State Senator Ed Charbonneau’s bill to inventory Indiana’s water supplies will head to the governor for final consideration.
The Valparaiso Republican authored the bill – which requires the Indiana Finance Authority to prepare a report on water loss and non-revenue water. According to Charbonneau’s offices, 25-percent of Indiana’s drinking water is lost due to leaky systems.

Former Sportsman’s Site Debris Causes Street Closures During Wind Gusts
Officials with the Town of Monterey are attempting to alleviate concerns over recent street closures in the community.
The issue started more than one week ago during high winds. The weather allegedly caused debris at the former Sportsman’s Bar and Grill site to damage part of a temporary wooden fence. That debris was then spotted blowing into Main and Walnut Streets.

The North Judson-San Pierre School Board will discuss details of the “right sizing” framework adopted at their February meeting during a public forum this evening at the high school auditorium. The special-called meeting starts at 6:30 p.m.

Second Bicycle Ride Approved as Pulaski County Bicentennial Legacy Project
Pulaski County has had another legacy project approved in celebration of the Hoosier State’s 200th year.
The Indiana Bicentennial Commission met on February 19th to consider legacy projects submitted for consideration and approval. So far, there are more than 1-thousand projects that will take place around the state.
In the latest round of considerations, 144 Legacy Projects received approval from the Commission. Among that list is Pulaski County’s Tippecanoe & Bicycles Too Bike Ride. It’s being hosted by the Friends of the Panhandle Pathway. Continue reading
