Storms Leave REMC, NIPSCO Customers in the Dark
A transmission outage at two Kankakee Valley REMC substations in Starke County has thousands of customers in the dark. Spokeswoman Amanda Steeb says a combination of ice and wind this morning has caused numerous broken poles and downed power lines. She reminds everyone to stay clear of downed lines and to treat them as though they are energized. No restoration time is available. More than 3,100 members are without power. Continue reading
INDOT Reminds Motorists to Slow Down
Roads across northwest Indiana are expected to be slick and hazardous into the evening hours. Widespread sleet and freezing rain have blanketed the area since early this morning. INDOT has 170 plow and salt crews on the roads but drivers say the conditions are exceptionally tricky because the wintry mix is washing de-icing materials off the road. Continue reading

The last week of 2015 is off to a dreary start in the weather department. A freezing rain advisory is in effect across the area until mid-afternoon. Water Now Available for Serenity Garden Watering
The Knox City Water Department will get a reimbursement for expenses related to the management of the Downtown Serenity Garden.
The project was started by a class at Knox High School as a way to learn about community involvement. The site of the Serenity Garden was developed following the demolition of a downtown building. It took several months to complete the work.

Knox Residents Reminded of Tree Disposal Protocol
The city of Knox trash contractor will not pick up natural Christmas trees. They can be placed in the compost drop-off pile located behind city hall. Make sure all tinsel, lights and other decorations are removed first. The city will pick up trees starting Jan. 4th.

The Pulaski County Public Library Board is sticking to its plans to end most services at the Medaryville branch starting January 1. Pulaski County has a problem with plastic.
The County’s Recycling and Transfer Station typically accepts plastic for recycling, the idea being that they eventually sell the plastic to vendors which use the bales as an alternative to newly produced plastic in their products.
