Alice Jane Wamsley, age 94, of Monterey, passed away February 3, 2021. Alice was born April 21, 1926, in Goshen, Indiana to Jesse Mishler and Nellie Ermin Reed Mishler, both deceased. She was a 1943 Graduate of New Albany High School, and a 1947 Graduate of Franklin College where she met her future husband, Claiborn (Clip) Wamsley. They moved to Monterey in 1950 where she became a member of the Monterey United Methodist Church, was a founding member of the Monterey Home Economics Club, member ofthe Indiana Retired Teacher’s Association, and a member of Pulaski County Extension Choir. She was awarded Culver Lion’s Club Citizen of the year in 2010.
She started her teaching career the year her youngest child began school in 1963, and was a home economics and art teacher for 24 years. Her leisure time was spent sewing, cooking, gardening, quilting, farming, church activities, reading, and her daily devotions. Alice was also known for her pies that she baked for many fundraisers.
On December 19, 1947 in Franklin, Indiana she married her husband of 71 years, Claiborn Marshall Wamsley. He precedes her in death. Also preceding her in death are her brothers Dale and Paul Mishler, and sisters Enda McDow and Enid Miller. Surviving are her children, George Wamsley (Marian), John Wamsley (Sherrill), Ellen Lindvall (Brent), and Mark Wamsley (Suzy), 14 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.
Visitation will take place Sunday, February 7, 2021 from 1 1:30-1 :30pm (CT) at M.C. Smith Funeral Home, 153 E. Washington St., Knox, m. Funeral services will follow at 1 :30pm (CT) at
M.C. Smith Funeral Home. Burial will take place Monday, February 8, 2021 at 2pm (ET) at Big Cedar Cemetery in Brookville, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested for donations to be made to Bashor Children’s Home or Donor’s Choice.
