Bernita Marie (Meyer) Amm, “Aunt Bea,” 98, went home peacefully on September 20, 2020 at Parkview Haven in Francesville, Indiana. Aunt Bea was born on October 18, 1921 in San Pierre, Indiana. She was the daughter of the late Orrie and Antonia Meyer.
In addition to her parents, Aunt Bea is proceeded in death by her husband Edward Amm and son Bruce Amm, along with her sister Stella (Meyer) Kaphein. She is also being greeted in Heaven by her sidekick and best friend Dorothy (Amm) Paulsen. The family knows full well those two are already causing a ruckus. She is survived by many nieces and nephews (along with great and great, great nieces and nephews).
In her younger years, Aunt Bea and her husband Edward were proud tavern owners. She has told many stories of her “politeness to patrons who had just a little too much to drink.” In addition to the taverns, her and Edward also raised and bred dachshunds. Aunt Bea worked the majority of her career after Edward’s death at Little Company of Mary in San Pierre as the office manager. She was a long-time member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in North Judson. Aunt Bea was also active in the American Legion Auxiliary Post 92 and the Starke County Council on Aging delivering meals on wheels. She was well known in the North Judson-San Pierre area as one of the biggest Bluejay athletic supporters and would faithfully attend various sporting events. She loved playing cards, playing bingo, and of course making trips to “the boat” (Blue Chip Casino). Aunt Bea’s charismatic charm and zest for life is summed up in her favorite toast: “Here’s to those who love me well, the rest of ‘em can go to hell!”
Funeral services, conducted by O’Donnell Funeral Home, will be held on Saturday September 26th at 1PM (CST) at St. Peter Lutheran Church in North Judson. The burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in LaCrosse, Indiana. Visitation will be held beginning at 11AM (CST) at St. Peter Lutheran Church until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in the name of Aunt Bea may be made to St. Peter Lutheran Church (810 West Talmer Avenue, North Judson, Indiana, 46366).
