Dolores K. “Dee” Hammerlund, age 91, of Knox, passed away peacefully in her home of 70 years into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday, June 27, 2020. Dee grew up in Chicago, Illinois with her parents, Joseph and Katharene Klimczak, seven sisters and two brothers, who have all preceded her in death.
On November 25, 1950, she married “the light of her life”, Harvey H. Hammerlund, and they enjoyed 61 years together, building their life on the farm they loved. Dee Thoroughly enjoyed being a wife to Harv and hosting countless family members and friends at the farm, always making their guests feel welcome and loved.
She was a devoted mom to daughter Sonja N. Rodgers (Dave) of Allendale, Michigan and was preceded in death by her son, Kevin L. Hammerlund. While being a wife and mom brought her great joy, she cherished her role as “Grandma H” to Keith Rodgers (Carlee) and Emily Rodgers, also of Allendale, Michigan.
Many wonderful memories were made on the farm and she will be greatly missed by those she loved so well. She is survived by several nieces, nephews, neighbors and good friends.
Dee’s family extends their gratitude to her lifelong friend and neighbor, Betty, for daily support and encouragement during her illness. Special thanks to her RN, Stephanie and CNA, Madison, from Dunes Hospice for providing such excellent care for Dee and compassion for her family over the past 3 weeks. Many thanks to her friends and family members for their expressions of love through visits, calls and cards. Your kindness is appreciated.
A funeral service will take place Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at 1pm (CT), with visitation two hours prior to services, at M.C. Smith Funeral Home in Knox. Burial will follow at the Round Lake Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made to Dunes Hospice in honor of Dee.
