Kenneth W. Whiles, age 81, of Knox, passed away Saturday, November 21, 2020. Kenneth was born October 18, 1939 in Crawfordsville, Indiana to Kenneth and Lucille Perry Whiles, both deceased. Kenneth had earned a Masters of Divinity and had pastored several churches, including the First Christian Church in Knox, before settling into his career as co-owner of Starke County Abstract.
He was a very active member and Deacon of the First Christian Church, performing dozens of weddings and funerals over the years, and he especially enjoyed participating in church camp. He was also very active in the community as a Major in the Civil Air Patrol, a long time board member of the Knox Kiwanis Club, participated for many years in the Businessmen Read program reading to school children, played Santa Claus at civic events throughout the city and county, and was an avid Ham Radio Operator (W9MTE). He will be long remembered as a kind and generous man who was always willing to help those in need.
On June 10, 1959 he married Carolyn Esry, she survives. Also surviving are his son, Christopher Whiles (Lisa) of Knox, a sister, Martha Sellers of North Salem, Indiana, and his grandchildren, Matthew Whiles of Muncie and Madison Baxter of North Judson.
A graveside service will take place Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 1:00pm (CT) at Highland Cemetery in North Judson. M.C. Smith Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
