Martin D. “M.D.” Patrick, age 89, of Knox, passed away Friday, November 16, 2018. Funeral services will be Friday, November 23, 2018 at 1 p.m. CST at M.C. Smith Funeral Home, with visitation 2 hours prior to services. Burial will take place at Crown Hill Cemetery.
Martin was born April 10, 1929 in Salyersville, Kentucky, to Watt Patrick and Erin Higgins Patrick, both deceased. He was a Veteran having served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War for two tours of duty.
He was a member of the Knox American Legion, a lifetime member of the Knox VFW and the first bartender at the VFW when it opened in 1954. He was also a 50-year member of the Knox Masonic Lodge. On July 28, 1956, in Valparaiso, Indiana, he married Carol J. Fennema.
She preceded him in death on August 7, 2001. He is survived by his children, Jean C. Smith of Knox, Deborah L. Zwierzchowski (Dan) of Grand Junction, CO, Michael Patrick (Kim) of Lamar, SC, and Wayne Brooke (Pamela) of North Judson, IN, Sisters, Dorothy Empie of Michigan and Norma Jean Patrick of Georgia, 9 Grandchildren, 13 Great Grandchildren and 5 Great Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Tom Patrick, Watt Patrick Jr., Ofield Patrick, Josephine Wyland, Flo Patrick and Gene Patrick.
