Food Pantry Emerges Victorious in WKVI Sports Bet
Starke County residents who need a hand up are the big winners in the good-natured bet between WKVI’s Nathan Welter and Mary Perren over the outcome of the recent Knox v. North Judson-San Pierre football game. Since Nathan is a graduate and Knox and they lost, part of his payoff was hosting an hour-long food drive at Heartland Markets in North Judson. Starke County Commissioners Settle on Temporary Morgue Space
Part of the old jail building in downtown Knox will be converted into morgue space for the coroner’s office on an interim basis. The county commissioners have agreed to turn the attached two-car garage into a secured area for body storage and viewing. There are a few appointment spaces available for photographs to be taken in the beautiful, historic home of former Indiana Governor Henry F. Schricker on South Main Street in Knox.The home, built in 1915, will be celebrating its 100th anniversary next month with an open house. Prosecutor, Students Partner to Share Important Message
Students from Starke County’s three high schools have an important message for their peers about the long-term consequences of their online activity. Prosecutor Nick Bourff is trying to raise awareness of sexting, cyber-bullying and other types of high-tech harassment that may not only cause pain and embarrassment but may also carry criminal consequences.He recently enlisted the help of students from Knox, North Judson-San Pierre and Oregon-Davis to get the word out.
Ancilla College Official Discusses Future Plans
Ancilla College officials recently announced plans to build a second residence hall on the Donaldson campus. Vice President of Admissions Eric Wignall says work on it will start as soon as the new student life center is finished.
“It’s going to be part coffee shop, part cafeteria, part kitchen facility, etc. The cool thing about the kitchen facility, the back of the kitchen, the back of the house, as they say, is a large kitchen prep area, and yes, we’re going to start offering culinary classes at some point.” Continue reading
