Incidents:

12/25/11 A caller told police of an accident in Franklin Township with one female in the car. The vehicle had gone into a ditch. The driver was not injured in the accident. The accident happened just west of 1175 West. The driver said she swerved to miss a deer and went off the road.

12/24/11 A resident in the Bruce Lake area told police that some unknown person(s) kicked the door in at his mother’s property, but he doesn’t see anything missing.

12/24/11 A caller in the Denham area said that a car driven by female went through his front yard and said part of her fender is in the yard and there is damage to some trees.

12/24/11 A car vs. deer accident occurred in the Denham area. The caller advised that the accident “messed up” the plastic molding and there are some scratches on his vehicle.

12/23/11 Police were called to a residence in the area of 700 South and 700 West in reference to an accidental shooting. Two brothers were playing video games, got to horsing around and the kids thought a BB gun in the house was not loaded. One brother shot his 11-year-old brother in the arm with a BB gun. Reportedly, there was no malicious intent.

12/23/11 A car vs. deer accident was reported in the Monon area. No injuries were reported and no report was needed.

12/23/11 A caller told police that a truck hit a pole and there are lines hanging in the Francesville area. The driver refused medical treatment. The accident caused half the pole to break. The driver was arrested for Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated.

12/22/11 A vehicle was towed after police were called about subjects pushing grocery carts up and down the street. Police arrived and found a stolen shopping cart in the back of the suspect vehicle. Several juveniles were involved in the incident.

12/22/11 NIPSCO was called after a gas leak was detected in one of the manholes across the street from Family Express in Winamac. NIPSCO crews located the leak and fixed it.

12/22/11 A caller advised of a car vs. deer accident that occurred right in front of her in the Beardstown area. No injuries and minimal damage were reported.

12/22/11 A Star City resident called to report that she was bitten by an animal. Officer advised that her own cat bit her while it was eating out of the trash can.

12/22/11 A caller advised that someone has hit her vehicle in the parking lot next to the nursing home in Winamac.

12/22/11 A caller told police that the car in front of him just spun out, hit a pole and is out in a field north of Francesville. No serious injuries were reported. Two juveniles were involved in the accident.

12/22/11 A caller told police that a person driving southbound on U.S. 35, just north of the Tippecanoe River State Park, was driving recklessly. The caller said that the driver was driving fast and was all over the road, running people off the road. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was cited for excessive speed and failure to carry a license on person.

12/22/11 The Sheriff’s Department was notified that a person was taking apart a bullet and it exploded. The subject was in the ER in White County if the deputy needed a report. The victim said the incident happened around 1:00 p.m. ET and tried to tough it out before he went to the hospital.

12/21/11 A semi that was being escorted through the area snipped a NIPSCO pole in Medaryville. The light pole kept exploding and NIPSCO was contacted to fix the problem.

12/21/11 A car vs. deer accident was reported in the Winamac area. No injuries were reported.

12/21/11 A Winamac business employee reported catching a shoplifter.

12/21/11 A car vs. deer accident was reported in the Star City area. No injuries were reported.

12/20/11 A Monterey resident called police to report that her neighbors were shooting and she just heard something hit her house. She believes it was a bullet. The neighbor told police that he was shooting, but at a target.

12/20/11 A resident in Franklin Township told police that he and his wife’s wedding rings were stolen from their friend’s house. The incident actually happened over Thanksgiving and the caller said that he has been checking pawn shops for the rings and found his at the pawn shop in Knox.

12/19/11 A car vs. deer accident was reported in the Monterey area. No injuries were reported.

12/26/11 Joseph J. Shepperd, 26, 15763 W. 200 N., Medaryville, IN, arrested on a preliminary charge of Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated.

12/25/11 Charles Cole, Salyersville, KY, arrested on preliminary charges of Disorderly Conduct and Resisting Law Enforcement.

12/24/11 Stephen Sutterfield, 29, 5886 W. 750 N., Winamac, IN, arrested on a preliminary charge of Disorderly Conduct. Discharged 12/24/11

12/23/11 Blake Dulin, 22, 115 N. Salem St., Francesville, IN, arrested on a preliminary charge of Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated. Discharged 12/24/11

12/23/11 Robert A. Schmidt II, 38, 5570 S. Main St., Winamac, IN, arrested on a preliminary charge of Driving While Suspended. Discharged 12/23/11

12/23/11 Shana Bailey, Royalton, KY, arrested on preliminary charges of Possession of Methamphetamine and Maintaining a Common Nuisance.

12/23/11 Tammy Wright, 47, HC77 P.O. Box 125, Royalton, KY, arrested on preliminary charges of Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of a Legend Drug.

12/23/11 Michael Wright, 44, HC77 P.O. Box 125, Royalton, KY, arrested on a preliminary charge of Visiting a Common Nuisance.

12/22/11 Frederick Mathes, 22, 2979 N. 800 W., Winamac, IN, arrested on an active arrest warrant. Discharged 12/22/11

12/19/11 Ryan Clouse, 39, 7994 S. 475 W., Winamac, IN, arrested on preliminary charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance and Serious Violent Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

12/19/11 Donna M. Stiltz, 36, 809 Bluebird Dr., Brussell Springs, KY, arrested on an active arrest warrant.

12/19/11 Heidi Gault, 40, 144 E. Washington, Hobart, IN, arrested on an active arrest warrant. Discharged 12/20/11

Incidents:

12/23/11 A resident in the 300 block of Franklin Street requested an officer in reference to a male subject on her porch with a pool stick. North Judson Police Officer Bill Scheiderer responded to the call. After a brief investigation Officer Scheiderer found out that Brian K. Lovins, of Knox, was there to fight a male that resides at that residence. Brian was then arrested for Intimidation and Public Intoxication.

12/23/11 A female came to the North Judson Police department to report that her husband’s wallet was stolen out of their vehicle. The vehicle was parked at a residence in the 300 block of High Street. This incident is still under investigation.

12/23/11 Chief Deputy Joe Budner responded to a property damage accident that occurred at Talmer Avenue and Division Street. A vehicle that was driven by Robert A. Allen of North Judson rear-ended a minivan driven by Heidi M. Stoller of Lowell, Michigan. The damages were estimated at over $5,000. The North Judson-Wayne Township Fire Department and Starke County EMS assisted at the scene. No injuries were reported.

12/23/11 A resident in the 500 block of Laurel Street reported the theft of a laptop computer out of his vehicle. The computer was recovered on Christmas Day, however this incident remains under investigation.

The North Judson Police Department would like to remind residents to make sure they keep their doors locked to both, their homes and vehicles. Chief Doug Vessely added that especially keeping the doors locked in your vehicle helps to deter crime and keeps your valuables safe. Criminals are always checking for unlocked cars to try and find cash and other valuables. The North Judson Police would like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season.

Incidents:

12/24/11 A resident of the 11500 block of East 400 North in Plymouth told police that while he was at the Down and Under Bar, someone broke into his truck and stolen his satellite radio and house key and said that they are trying to break into his home as well.

12/24/11 Terry McDaniel told police that someone had stolen a large inflatable Santa Claus from his yard.

12/24/11 Robert Raginis of North Judson told police that when he went to deliver a newspaper to a resident of the 7300 block of South 600 West, he noticed someone had vandalized a gray telephone box and left phone cables laying all over the place.

12/24/11 Allen McBride of Knox told police that his 17-year-old son moved out and stole his bicycle.

12/24/11 Bob Tiljak of Knox reported someone had broken into the pole barn of the home directly behind him.

12/23/11 A resident of the 5600 block of South 100 East in Knox reported someone had been setting his trees on fire.

12/23/11 A resident of the 9600 block of East 50 South in Knox reported a break-in.

12/22/11 A caller reported the presence of a garbage bag on Ind. 39 by the Kline Arm Bridge, and he told police that when he investigated it he found syringes inside.

12/21/11 Patricia Camp of Knox told police that someone had siphoned gas from her vehicles.

12/21/11 Vicki Richey of North Judson reported a bench was taken from her brother’s grave in Highland Cemetery.

12/20/11 A resident of the 4400 block of South 350 West in North Judson reported someone had tore up his yard with a vehicle.

12/19/11 Mark Budka of North Judson told police that someone had broken into buildings on his farm and stolen items.

12/19/11 Judy Lenig told police that someone had broken the knobs off the door to the Golden Horseshoe Saddle Club on 600 East in Knox. Lenig also reported several briefcases missing.

12/19/11 Carl Baisben of San Pierre told police that someone had stolen a muzzleloader and bag of powder from a small campground near the tri-county line.

12/18/11 Tiffany Eskridge told police that while she was at a friend’s house in Ora, someone stole her wallet from her car and attempted to lift her backseat to steal her car speakers.

12/18/11 William Bunkowfst of Knox reported a man had been stopping at his house and opening his mailbox.

12/18/11 A patient in the Intensive Care Unit at I.U. Health Starke Hospital told police that he had been assaulted with a bat at a residence in Ora.

12/18/11 A resident of the 6800 block of South Ind. 10 in Knox told police that someone had broken into his garage and stolen a gun and two bows.

12/18/11 Tiffany Frazier of Walkerton reported someone had broken into her home.

Knox City Police Chief Clint Norem

Incidents:
12/20/11 Josh and Savannah Garbison called police to report a robbery. They entered their home on South Pearl Street and saw that it had been ransacked. Christmas presents had been tossed around and unwrapped around their Christmas tree and a flat screen television was stolen. Several bottles of liquor were also stolen. Cabinets and dresser drawers were also found open and items were laying on the floor. The officer noted that the west door to the home had been forced open. The locks were broken and the door frame was damaged.

Walter Lee Smith, Jr., 44, Hamlet, IN, arrested on a preliminary charge of Battery.

12/24/11 Stephanie Berg, 37, 3129 Pulaski St., Hobart, IN, arrested on preliminary charges of False Informing, Resisting Law Enforcement, Driving While Suspended-Prior and Reckless Driving. She also had a valid arrest warrant through Starke Circuit Court.

12/23/11 Timothy Howard, 35, 2595 200 E., Knox, IN, arrested on preliminary charges of Attempted Burglary, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Public Intoxication, Possession of a Legend Drug, Resisting Law Enforcement by Fleeing and Resisting Law Enforcement.

12/20/11 Nathan Hummel, 24, 504 N. Starke St. Lt. 5, Hamlet, IN, arrested on preliminary charges of Armed Robbery, Dealing a Controlled Substance, Resisting Law Enforcement, Disarming an Officer and Criminal Mischief.
