The best way to help victims of the natural disasters like the Kokomo tornadoes or the catastrophic Baton Rouge flooding is to contribute financially to a reputable charity. The American Red Cross estimates flood recovery efforts will cost nearly $30 million. As of Monday they had only received $7.8 million in donations and pledges. Red Cross volunteers are already in central Indiana providing emergency services in the aftermath of yesterday’s tornadoes.

The American Red Cross is working to make sure it has a sufficient number of blood donations over the summer months. In a press release, the Red Cross says that summer vacations and activities often mean regular donors are too busy to give blood. Blood Drive Scheduled in Honor of WKVI’s Tom Berg
Celebrate life and make a difference this Election Day by giving blood. The American Red Cross is hosting a drive tomorrow at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church on South Heaton Street in Knox in honor of WKVI morning show host Tom Berg. He was diagnosed last summer with Stage 4 cancer and is on medical leave during his treatment. Tom used to be a faithful blood donor but is no longer able to give due to his medical condition. American Red Cross Shares WKVI Blood Drive Results
American Red Cross officials are pleased with the results of last month’s WKVI blood drive. The station hosted a bloodmobile in the parking lot of the studio at 400 West Culver Road on Monday, Aug. 3. A total of 19 donors registered, one was deferred, and 18 units of blood were collected. American Red Cross Giving Day 2015
Approximately 200 times a day the American Red Cross helps a family affected by disaster. Finally, you have a chance to help the ultimate helpers. Today is the first ever ‘Giving Day’, launched by the Red Cross to encourage people across the country to donate to ensure help is available wherever and whenever tragedy may strike. The theme of this 24-hour national fund-raising campaign is “All In One Day” because the Red Cross is “all in” every day, helping people to get back on their feet.
American Red Cross May Close Marshall County Office
The American Red Cross office in Plymouth is slated to close on June 30. Northern Indiana Regional Executive Director Sue Gulley says services and programs will still be offered. She adds shutting the office down will allow the nonprofit organization to combine valuable resources while still providing programs like CPR training, disaster response and blood drives. Marshall County Red Cross volunteer Carol Arnett works closely with emergency management and other local officials when disasters like gas leaks, fires and floods occur. She says local volunteers can respond within minutes versus the hours it takes for South Bend to mobilize.

The cold weather often prevents volunteers from leaving their homes or places of work to give blood according to Donor Recruitment Representative Dianna Weiss. She works out of the offices in Plymouth and says the need for blood is constant.
